Just for Funsies

Who doesn't love a blue duck? I mean really, that's just silly enough to be a favorite of everyone!

A Double Dose of the 80's

Okay so these two great flairs are paying tribute to the 80's- great music, fun fashions, and some classic pop culture!

Bye Bye Cookies!

Saturday, January 10, 2009

The new year has really brought some changes in my life. A bunch of my friends decided to throw in $20 each and challenge each other to lose weight this semester. Whoever loses the highest percentage of body weight between now and the end of the semester gets to keep the money- talk about motivation! And if that wasn't enough to get me going, I also joined the Pound for Pound Challenge. It's been hard giving up unhealthy food (like cookies), but I've found ways to adjust.

If you haven't yet seen Juno, you are missing out! This tale of teenage pregnancy and all the turmoil that ensues is a unique look into the mind of the average American teenager. The hard issues are taken with a dose of laughter as this young girl does her best to make sense of the adult world she's inadvertently stumbled into. One of my favorite characters in the entire movie, however, only appears for about five minutes in one of the opening scenes. It's the store clerk at the convenient store where Juno goes to purchase a pregnancy test. His lines (like the one used for this piece of flair) are quick, but they are funny and overtly to the point. He is definitely a character I would love to see in another story!

If you are having trouble reading this flair, it says "I like big books and I cannot lie". I figured it was an appropriate piece of flair to highlight as school is resuming from winter break. Personally, I love it cause it's a great reminder that brains are so much more sexy than the outer appearance of a person.

Southern Stewie

Family Guy fans will recall "To Love and Die in Dixie" as a hilarious episode in which Chris witnesses a crime and the whole family is placed in the witness protection program and relocated to the "deep south". During this episode riddled with ridiculous characters and grossly exaggerated circumstances, Stewie learns to play the banjo.

Fish: Food or Friend?

Wednesday, January 7, 2009

Ah, Pixar! The illustrious media giant that introduced us inadvertently to several subliminal messaging campaigns including endorsement of the vegan lifestyle. While I myself am not a vegan, I appreciate the self-restraint the sharks attempt to utilize in order to appease their social consciences. However, the sharks soon learn that while friendship is valuable, it is a difficult to compete with carnivorous instincts... especially when fish are so tasty!

Milton Hershey was an Inspired Soul

Perhaps there are some problems chocolate cannot fix, but if I ever have such a problem, I think I'll try it anyways! It may be stereotypical for girls to be chocoholics, but this is one area I don't mind agreeing with the stereotype on! Whether it's because of my gender or because it's just plain good, chocolate is perhaps one of my all time favorite foods and often brings a smile to my face. For more fun with chocolate, check out these quotes, all written and collected by like-minded people.

Argh! A Pirate's Life for Me!

Monday, January 5, 2009

This flair I added to commemorate my decision to attend East Carolina University for grad school, where the mascot is the much feared PeeDee the Pirate. The Pirate life is vastly different than I originally imagined, but I can't say it's ever boring! And hey, I'm accomplishing a childhood dream of becoming a pirate- what could be better than that?

A Colorful Imagination

Sunday, January 4, 2009

I know I mentioned a while back that I'm still a kid at heart, but it is never more obvious than when I go to one of those kid-friendly sit down restaurants where the tablecloth is paper and they keep crayons at the table. Those are the moments the kid in me cannot contain herself! Inevitably, by the time the server arrives with the food, there is some type of picture or design drawn up all over the table. My heart is saddened a bit by the plates and cups covering all my hard work, that is until I'm distracted by the food and drink they contain. There have been several times, however, that I have considered asking to take a portion of the paper tablecloth home to display on the fridge.

Frosty Fries

Saturday, January 3, 2009

I don't remember how old I was exactly, but I remember looking up over my meal one night at Wendy's at my brother's sly grin. I watched him lift a fry, look around to see if mom and dad were watching as he plunged it into his Frosty and quickly snapped it into his mouth. I watched as the corners of his mouth turned upward at the joy of his culinary genius of combining two beloved cuisine favorites. Within a minute, my eyes were widening as I discovered that my brother had just stumbled upon a divine combination. While my adult tastebuds don't seem to appreciate it as much anymore, I typically eat at least one fry with frosty just to remember the silly little things that amuse us as children and make us feel invincible.

Gee golly, I just love flair, doncha know?

When I was a young teen and I began hanging out with people from different places and going on trips with friends, I noticed that I have a high tendency to pick up random accents. While I was born and raised in the deep south, my accent tends to sound much more Mid-Western/New Englandish at times. It comes and goes, and when I'm in a playful mood, it sometimes can be completely random like a Scottish accent or a crazy mix of different dialects. For this reason, I often warn people when they are getting closer to me that I do often bust out in random accents. And, admittedly, they sometimes come out the strongest when I'm talking to myself under my breath which, yes, I do quite often.

New Year, New Flair

Thursday, January 1, 2009

It's a new year and I can't think of a better way to send your friends a greeting than with flair! Here's a favorite of mine featuring a fat penguin, because after all, who doesn't enjoy a fat penguin? Happy New Year!
